Financial Aid

Types of Aid

Financial aid generally falls into two categories: gifts or self-help. Gift aid are scholarships and grants given to students and do not need to be repaid. Self-help aid includes loans that need to be repaid or work study that is earned.

Federal Work-Study

The FWS Program provides funds for part-time employment to help needy students to finance the costs of postsecondary education. Hourly wages must not be less than the federal minimum wage.

Scholarships do not require repayment. These can be awarded based on merit but also can be awarded based on financial need. Criteria such as academic achievement or athletic ability may apply.

Like scholarships, grants do not require repayment.

Educational Loans

Loans are legal obligations that must be repaid. We encourage students to exhaust all other sources of aid first. Always remember to borrow only what you need.

For more information regarding types of student aid we encourage parents and students to visit the Federal Student Aid website.
