General Benefit Information
Student Veterans and certain dependents of Veterans may receive assistance at Lincoln College through funding from various forms of the GI Bill. The Illinois Veteran’s Grant applies only to public colleges and universities and will not be able to be utilized at Lincoln College.
Lincoln College employees are not authorize to advise students on what benefits they are eligible for, that determination must come from the VA. The office of financial aid is only able to point you in direction of where to start the process or where to follow up with the VA about your benefits.
Veterans who wish to attend Lincoln College and use their veterans benefits must follow the below steps:
- Provide an official transcript from any college or university attended in the past to the university.
- If student has not applied for benefits to be used at Lincoln College they can apply through https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/vonapp. Once the application has been completed and approved the VA will provide a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the student. The student will need to provide a copy of COE to the financial aid office and ensure their student ID # is included on the document.
- All students using benefits must complete a VA packet and have it submitted every semester after the student has registered for their classes. It is the student’s responsibility to report any enrollment changes to the financial aid office. Any delays in notifying the office can potentially create delays in payments or potential debts to the VA.
- If a student is using vocational rehab, please ensure the financial aid office has up to date information for your counselor. This will ensure there are no delays in processing of your benefits.
How will the amount of courses I take impact my benefits?
In order to receive full benefits, a Veteran must maintain full-time status each semester by enrolling in a minimum 12 credit hours. Nine credit hours will be considered three-fourths time, and six credit hours will be considered half time. Veterans enrolled for less than six credit hours will receive only tuition and fee allowances.
